Not for nothing. I would have stood at the window. If the mob came in to destroy my house, I would have cover. Standing outside, brandishing, was needlessly provocative. Also a semi auto or pump shotgun would be the gun for the job at the distance.
Yep - being outside of cover goes against everything I was taught. You lose protection advantage, especially if the mob chooses the storm-the-castle option.
