Actually I had the same criticism of the film when it came out. It’s one of the movies that Hollywood loves to make - the forward-thinking, self-satisfied white person elevates the racial minority to heights that they couldn’t have done without the help.
They’ve enjoyed doing and re-doing that concept for decades.
Another concept that Hollywood loves is the satire about their own industry that ostensibly looks scathing, but it’s really jusr another form of self-glorification.
Strange, given that’s what most liberals aspire to be.
