Don’t understand. Why would a public school system need a contract with a public police department?

Oh wait, were talking about the intelligence of the public school system admin. My bad.

In many states school systems are sovereign governmental entities. They have their own elected officials, independent taxation authority . . . and independent law enforcement authority.

Often they contract with a local municipal police department or county sheriff to provide policing. Also often, they set up their own school system police departments. My county and several others around here do that.

I expect the Minneapolis schools will ultimately contract with another agency or set up their own department (depending on if that is allowed in MN).

To provide on-site security? Not much different than a subdivision having officers on contract for patrol
