RE: There are no cures for coronavirus at this point in time, just like there are no cures for influenza, or HIV, or a myriad of other viral infections.
What do you call the millions of people who have RECOVERED from Covid-19 then? Are they cured or not?
“Cure” is an inaccurate term when referring to people who have recovered because their immune system eventually eradicated Covid (or some other virus). A ‘cure’ connotes something that you give or do to a patient that eradicates the infection/condition. The natural course for non-chronic viral infections is for your immune system to clear the virus. Obviously this is what happens when we get infected by influenza, rhinoviruses, or other non-Covid coronaviruses etc. We get a ‘cold’, and we eventually eradicate the virus. It's not like pneumococcal pneumonia - where we give antibiotics that can “cure” the infection.
There are few viruses for which we have a “cure”. Among those, thankfully, is hepatitis C, which we can now eradicate.
