I buy fabric sheets that are made for inkjet printers. You print on the fabric side, peel off the paper backing, and set with an iron. Then rinse with cold water, partially dry on paper towel, then re-set with iron. Then make whatever mask you want.
I have a pattern for a 3D mask that gives a large area for for a message.
Like you, my brother and his kids get creative with Sharpies on ready-made masks. His boys are super conservative and even though they’re young they come up with some good stuff. The youngest is eight.
