The way to combat it, though, is with effective treatment given at the BEGINNING of the illness, not at the point when the person is on death’s door.

Cause that's exactly what I see it to be.
No, it won’t go away for two reasons.
1: Pandemic illnesses have been around for thousands of years. Here in the northwest we occasionally get cases of the plague. Canada is a good example.
Plague was diagnosed in bushy-tailed wood rats in British Columbia in 1988 and passed by fleas in Alberta, Saskatchewan, and British Columbia. Tyzzer’s disease has been diagnosed in muskrats in British Columbia, Saskatchewan, Ontario, and Quebec in snowshoe hares.
In the US, since 2006, chikungunya virus disease cases were reported in the US in all but three states, Wyoming, Nebraska, and North Dakota. Zika virus returned last year in California. Bouts with encephalitis, swine flu, bird flu, and other things have become common place as they are moving through nature. They don’t go away that easy. Which leads me to number 2:
As long as someone has it in a test tube somewhere, even if a vaccine is found, it can be morphed and re-infected by someone. We don’t even vaccine for whooping cough, diphtheria or chicken pox any more so they would be easy to infect. And for the scenareo of a bio attack, chicken pox is perfect. Spreads easy, makes adults feel horrible, and removes them from the battle. This is how a bio attacks works. It isn’t made to kill everyone. It is there to make them stop arguing and quit....give up.

On the other hand - it OK to 'hope for the best'... that it was an accident or natural virus.
But like you it seems more logical to me - and saner - that it's a likely a bio-weapon...
Maybe they know something about the bioengineering of this drug that we don’t know.
If, heaven forbid, this country gets a dem president, the problem will disappear from the news. After all, the media wouldn’t want to create a crisis for their man!
H1N1, Swine, Avian, Bird didn’t go away either.

My simple brain responds:
“Well, then...we should allow the unavoidable herd immunity to happen and open everything back up. We’ll do our best to protect ourselves, just like when we drive a car or go swimming or use a chain saw or drink alcoholic beverages or start a new sexual relationship or....”
What is done, and what is all that needs to be done, is a different matter than the likelihood the Wuhan Virus never completely goes away. The Spanish Flu - that caused the 1918-1919 Spanish Flu pandemic - killing about 675,000 in the U.S. - is still with us today. It is among the Seasonal Flu viruses and now they call it Influenza A. I imagine over time the Wuhan Virus will meld into, take it’s place among, the Seasonal Flu bugs.
And now President Trump is restoring some of its funding.
Sounds like a perfect description of Democrats.
