You are correct. I thought of that just after I hit the POST button (we really need the ability to edit) :)

UPS, Fedex, and Amazon are hiring like crazy. The health insurance benefits at UPS are fantastic, and these (ex) journalists could take advantage of UPS' tuition reimbursement plan to obtain a marketable skill.
UPS has benefit programs for all workers, including part timers that go into effect after 9 months. I've never seen anything like it: medical, dental, prescription, vision...all paid for by the company. You have to stay within the network, but that's not difficult at all.
The only change I'm having to make is to change my pharmacy to CVS, that's it. Co-pays are almost nonexistent.
Easy to see why most of my coworkers have been there for 10+ years. The value of the paid health insurance is not to be underestimated.

How about working as garbage collectors? There are many openings in that line of work.

Perhaps dishwasher is more there level anyway. Aren't restaurants doing take-out only? Not many dishes to wash.

They could always go back to the Goebbels School of Journalism for a refresher course in bull scat.

Lots of people who know how to code are unemployed right now. So I dont think thats going to help them. LOL! They'll also have to compete with all the H1Bs from India.
Perhaps dishwasher is more there level anyway.
LOL again! Most restaurants are currently only doing carry out. No need for dishwashers.

I guess with their great grasp of economic theory, they havent yet figured out that advertisers are what keep them on the air, many of them small business owners who .....arent essential.I'm sure they haven't.

Loved this response.
I’m a journalist. So are millions of other randos with Twitter accounts speaking the truth.
“These people being laid off aren’t journalists. They’re professional activists.
Good riddance. Your “job” was always unethical.”

Cleveland Plain Dealer announced it is closing its print newsroom. The few surviving writers will work for the online counterpart Cleveland.com. Once upon a time the PD was a serious major newspaper. Long ago. Now it just feeds stories from the wire services. Local reporting is a joke.
