I made a penny for each piece of coal I polished when I was six years old. That was the going rate in those days and people were willing to pay me for it and I was willing to do the job. I believe therein lies the answer to the question.

Don't begrudge or envy a man's talents or pay. Realize there is always someone that has more money than you, but you can be a better person than him, because that is free.

Athletes should be forced to live by the politics they support. If a team has a salary cap of 54 million dollars, and 54 players on the roster, all should get the same pay. They seem to be all for socialism, well live it brah.

Even if they are, by what mechanism would you propose to rectify it?

Bingo! The "money quote" of this thread!

Thanks.

There are a lot of things I don't particularly like, but I know if we try to use the government to stop it, it will be worse than it is now.

I find most pro athletes boring and ignorant in their arrogance. This has motivated me to stop watching most pro sports. Pro hockey players are OK in my book.

NBA minimum pay ain’t exactly chopped liver.

“Listed below are 2019/20’s minimum salary figures, sorted by years of NBA experience. If a player spent any time on an NBA club’s active regular season roster in a given season, he earned one year of experience. So any player with zero years of experience has not yet made his NBA debut.”

Years of Experience Salary
0- $898,310
1- $1,445,697
2- $1,620,564
3- $1,678,854
4- $1,737,145
5- $1,882,867
6- $2,028,594
7- $2,174,318
8- $2,320,044
9- $2,331,593
10+ $2,564,753

https://www.hoopsrumors.com/2019/06/nba-minimum-salaries-for-201920.html

So a new player with not even one game under his belt is guaranteed to make $898,310 as long as he is on the roster forONE game.
Pretty cushy.

The base pay for a drafted NFL rookie is $325,000 as long as he is on the team opening day.

The MLB minimum pay is $555,000.
Pretty cushy for a pine rider on the big team.
For guys stuck in the minors, not so much.
“According to The Athletic, the average salary for a minor league baseball player was $6,000 in Single-A, $9,350 in Double-A and $15,000 in Triple-A in 2018.”

Athletes are paid big money to keep people in front of the tube to watch the commercials. Frankly—if the Gorilla Channel would lock the viewers in...gorillas would be paid in buckets of bananas. Its all about selling soap.

No. There are plenty of useful idiots that willingly hand over their money to pay them.

They are about to find out just how non-essential and overpaid they are.

If one considers that athletes are partners in a business venture that makes X amount of profit and they are paid a percentage of X because of their contribution to it, then they are NOT overpaid anymore than Jeff Bezos is over-rewarded.

This "overpaid" talk is straight out of the socialists' handbook.

If you buy anything that’s advertised on sports broadcasts, they’re seeing a lot more than a dime of your money.

The day somebody PAYS to watch a teacher teach, or a doctor lance a boil, or any other person do their job, we can talk about how these other people are underpaid.

That day has arrived. Ever watch Doctor Pimple Popper?

Lol! Nyet. No Thanks! But I suppose such a doctor is being paid for the entertainment value and not the results.

Did you read the rest?
The NFL and MLB have lower minimums but they also carry more players on their rosters.

The base pay for a drafted NFL rookie is $325,000 as long as he is on the team opening day.

The MLB minimum pay is $555,000.
Pretty cushy for a pine rider on the big team.

Define overpaid.

The team owners and leagues make billions in TV rights, and all of the other revenue streams. Are they over paid?

We are a country of 330 million. There are how many NBA players? 500? Seems to me they should get every nickel they can.

Stories like this—comparing different jobs and their pay is an exercise in jealousy. Throughout this whole COVID thing we keep seeing examples of the use of statistics to make a point. The point they make is that Americans don’t know how to read statistics.

The other point is that many Americans are mired in jealousy and greed. They want what LeBron has, but they are not interested in doing what LeBron has to do to earn it.
