I think Democrats another see the bill of rights as regards to Congress, not sates. So therefore the states can restrict religion, restrict speech, restrictive gun’s, etc.
The 14th amendment took care of that through the due process clause. That doesn't seem to faze them in their quest to ignore anything in the constitution they don't like, which is pretty much all of it.
