Americans are not as Ayn Randy as you seem to be.

IMO:

We could build herd immunity being able to reasonably socialize, distance and wear masks more resposibly than your survival of the fittest approach.

So happy you know all about Americans, Ayn Rand and myself.
I especially appreciate the adverbial form of Rand. She might smile at that herself.

Herd immunity is simply allowing everyone to contract the virus. 97.97% or so will survive. I suppose that makes them fit, but have no idea of how comparative that survival might be. About 80% have light symptoms and a great many, perhaps 20% or so, never know they have it.

It isn’t as though we have no treatments. It isn’t as though this virus isn’t less deadly, let alone severe, then normal flu. It is simply more highly contagious.

Were you suggesting some moral lack in the promotion of survival of the fittest? Sorry. It is simply the way the human species has evolved and developed over millennia. It is what it is.

Do you somehow equate destruction of entire societies, implementation of totalitarian deprivations of natural rights such as movement and association and dress, malnutrition due to government mismanagement and imposition of societal participation by arbitrary decree as kind, compassionate and wise?

That’s historically the position of Hitler, Stalin, Mao and Pol Pot. Our current globalist betters assure us of their own beneficial intentions. You know, the ones that pave the road to Hell.

Responsibility lies with each of us. Do as you wish. Do not impose your preferences on others and then cloak them in moral snark. Do onto others as you wish them to do onto to you. Mask, self-isolate, bow and scrape in order to garner wider social approval, if you so wish. No one is stopping you. Let others refrain, if they so wish.

Masking and isolation and distancing do not protect anyone. Only contraction of the virus protects everyone. If you doubt this, there are plenty of educated virologists who are now, after the fact of societal destruction in the name of protection, saying exactly that.

Frightened people dislike being seen as weak, so they demand their fears become mandates on everyone.

Americans are generally neither frightened nor weak. That is actually surprising, but the evidence exists in all the protests, the blatant refusals to abide by irrational dictates and something that pleases many of us no end.

YMMV
