Tonight we are having Cornish game hens (small chickens) that have been split in half and marinated for at least 24 hours in Korean bulgogi sauce. Baked on a rack at 350 for an hour.
Salad and cous cous on the side.

No kim chee or rice?
Wednesday is our once a week carb day plus the missus likes cous cous - and sadly, Safeway was out of kim chee which I love.
You mentioned Pennsylvania Dutch, my mother's family - she taught me how to make chicken soup with rivels when I was just a sprout.

Also a significant portion of my DNA is German”
Same principle at work as in putting sauerkraut onto a sausage....combining the salt/sweet/acid/fat/oil all together in a beautiful complementary twangy blues ballad!!!

Everyone on this thread would, I think, really enjoy
The Chef Show
It’s on Netflix (I know...sorry :(....)
But it has Jon Favreau and Roy something or other....can’t remember his last name...but it is outstanding. It is also really encouraging, really unpretentious, really beautiful and helps us appreciate all that has gone before.
In the most important ways (ie, meaning not the narrowly political)....this show is PROFOUNDLY conservative.
Each show honestly is a masterpiece....there’s a whole episode on sour dough, and the visit to Skywalker Ranch where everything is grown and the beef raised is also spectacular.
Like I said...it is profoundly conservative. I hope everyone on this thread watches it!!!

do you make your own Korean bulgogi sauce? If so...high five.
If not and you just buy it, could you recommend one?
To: dainbramaged
You can make kimchi. Takes about a week to ferment properly.
I know people who only do it a couple of days but that is just spiced cabbage not kimchi in my husband's opinion.

I have made bulgogi from scratch but am getting lazy in my old age - “CJ” brand “Korean BBQ Original Sauce Bulgogi Marinade” claims to be the best selling sauce in Korea and works very well. Comes in a 4 pack, not cheap though - about $10 per jar from Amazon.

Two weeks probably would be better but it always gets opened and devoured by day eight. Except for that one time I made a batch before we went to visit my aunt. That went ten whole days.
And don't tell me to make more then one batch. He would just overdose trying to eat it all.
