Seriously, how long does this stupidity continue? Charges of racism and xenophobia continue as the press objects to the Trump Administration referring to the COVID-19 virus by its place or origin.

The election year politics of this may get interesting. I suspect one long-term bit of fallout from all this will be a lot more distrust of China, and more support for tariffs and/or being less dependent on China for critical materials.

Trump has a record of being very tough on China -- all those trade sanctions and tariffs that were criticized by so many -- while Biden has a record of bending over whenever the Chinese ask. I'd play that card hard if I was Trump in the run-up to the election.

This presser just now, he was asked why he called it the Chinese virus and he AGAIN said that it was where it came from.

President Trump also said that the Chinese were trying to claim that it was American soldiers who infected the Chinese in the first place, and that claim wouldn't be allowed to happen while he was President.

People scoffed at that before, but I wonder how many are having second thoughts about "made in America" now.

Actually, there was an incredible amount of wartime censorship due to the Great War. The belligerents did not want to publicize the flu epidemic as it was feared that doing so would damage morale. Spain was a neutral country and its press provided extensive coverage of the flu. Hence, the name “Spanish Flu” stuck.
