First of all, Wuhan is a place and not a race, and to identify the coronavirus by its place of origin, like naming the Ebola Virus for a river in Zaire, is not racist or xenophobic it's merely accurate. There is no racism or xenophobia in labeling an infection "Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever" or calling something "Lyme Disease" after a nearby town in Connecticut. What calling this latest virus the Wuhan Virus is is a reminder of the multiple contagions China has spawned and released on an unsuspecting world. Nor is connecting some very big, ugly, and obvious dots just another conspiracy theory to be dismissed out of hand. From the beginning China has been less than forthcoming about this virus and resisted sharing critical data and access to WHO and CDC specialists. And have we forgotten Dr. Li Wenliang, the 33-year-old ophthalmologist based in Wuhan, the epicenter of the contagion, who tried to tell the world that China was hiding something malevolent, only to be silenced and imprisoned by Chinese authorities for allegedly fabricating lies about the disease's deadly potential?

Agreed. That’s why they are denying it originated in their lab.
could be vaccine research that got loose. the bats getting sold from lab by employees in market to me is 100% believable. it is to folks who have worked in china before even more. such a typical third world story.
that said, they may be first to economically get back to ‘normal’ and they are certainly taking a more belligerent tone with the US. being first doesn’t have to mean hardest hit in this case (and no I don’t not believe their numbers for a second).
It seems to have caused enough disruption just like it is.
“If the virus were weaponized, wouldn’t you expect its lethality rate to be much higher? “
Actually, no. Think about it. This virus has shut down the world and pretty much the global economy. If anything, it seems like it was designed to hasten Cloward-Piven to overload the systems of the United States, foment fear in the citizens and force panic buying fed by MSM fear mongering and condemnation of Trump for the job he is doing.
I would say this was perfect for the situation, especially in an election year.
Perhaps. It seems that the virus will cause temporary disruptions (which might affect Trump's re-election but he has time to rally if necessary). Every social and economic structure will emerge unscathed. The country is much better prepared for the next virus (God forbid) - it is almost like a test of our emergency systems. When the covid-19 epidemic passes, our nation will likely be better prepared for an epidemic than we have ever been. If the covid-19 virus is weaponized and released with ill intent, it results could wind up being counter-productive.
However, with a weaponized virus having a considerably higher mortality rate, social and economic structures are going to be significantly disrupted, possibly for a long time. Personnel shortages could develop, particularly among skilled persons who are not easily replaced in the short-term. A weaponized virus with a higher mortality rate would create all the issues we are seeing today and a host of additional ones much more difficult to fix.
They had first mentioned it in a research paper several years ago.
I would expect many countries, including ours, to be working on ways to kill or debilitate their completion, whether it is nuclear ,biological, or by any other means.
I think China was just in the early stages of so-called weaponizing this corona virus, and were a year or more away from a vaccine or treatment, to protect themselves.
IMHO the virus got loose from their experimentations. -Tom
