Yes, one might even say that (contrary to Bernie Sanders’ statements on the subject today) teaching EVERYONE to read is not necessarily a good thing. It gives some people more confidence in their own stupidity.
I really don’t know what Castro’s alleged “massive literacy program” consisted of, so for Bernie to judge it a “good thing” is not based upon anything except his impulsive need to bloviate FWICS. Not to mention that the touted results of the alleged program come from the antisemitic UNESCO anyway, which claimed that from 1959 to 1961 the illiteracy rate went from 23.6 percent to 3.9 percent with no context given.
