Total propaganda bullsh&t. I went to Cuba on a National Geographic sponsored tour and arrived the day after Fidel died. Racism is alive and well in Cuba and it has nothing to do with the US. Black Cubans have little or no chance gaining significant positions in the Communist Party, or academia. So far as the exported Cuban doctors are concerned, they are marginally trained, but are basically slaves to the Cuban government bringing in about $11 billion to their economy which is about 3 times what the other commodities (sugar, tobacco, coffee, seafood, nickel, etc) bring in.

I spoke to a middle school teacher who informed me that his cardiologist brother who was making about $30/mo from the government was now driving a taxi and making about 20 times that from tourists.

It was a real bummer to be in Cuba during the period of mouring for Castro, as music was banned, as was alcohol (except in major hotels). When Fidels ashes were viewed both in Havana and in Cinfeugos, the lines were miles long. He was revered like a Diety.
