I work my azz off and I am constantly in line with people who just slide EBT as I slide my DEBIT and I am essentially paying for myself and partially for everyone else on the dole. Disclaimer is for the very few “through the net” who desperately need government assistance.

I know. I buy hamburger. I buy spaghetti. I buy potatoes. I see carts full of potato chips, pop, frozen desserts, candy. The bill is over $300. Now look, I don’t want anyone to starve to death, but, there must be a better way to attack hunger.

I agree most are sorrier than whale crap but a few actually do need and are taking care to make themselves better while drawing EBT benefits. I have a young mother who works in my department on the Ready to Work program that gets EBT benefits and other assistance. She got pregnant as a junior in high school and lives with her grandparents, it’s very close to the college she attends. Baby daddy is useless POS. She managed to graduate in top 5% of high school class, worked and took care of her premature baby with help from parents babysitting and grandparents. She’s in her second year of college and on deans list and about to be accepted into nursing school. She see’s the trap of government handouts and wants more out of life for herself and young son. So as she put it, yes I’m drawing benefits but I’m getting my degree and a job that pays enough so I don’t have to depend on anyone including the government. She’s been one of my best workers in 25 years of supervision of student workers. These are the ones I encourage and push and work with if they have a sick child.
