I can’t help with my kids homework because they are doing something different than I was taught 40 years ago. I have issues teaching my college age students machine shop math because some of them dont “get” the concepts I teach. It’s difficult, and yes I k ow the common denominator is myself, but has math changed that much?

Common Core Math is famous across the country and around the world for makings kids permanently math-disabled. A lot of the teachers hate it too, but they get their orders "from the district."

Some of them surreptitiously show them the traditional way to do the computation, so the kid can draw their maddening doodlegrams and get the right answers despite the System.

This is job security for public school teachers. If parents and private schools don’t teach like the public schools when it comes to college entrance exams the public schools will have the advantage.combating private and homeschooling the liberal way.

When we went to school, math was taught by rote.
Everyone solved similar problems on the board, and if a student was having problems with a concept the teachers would work on that concept and also assign other students to help.

If a student never got it then they repeated the grade.

Nobody failed in secret.

Now they teach using an absurd methodology, records are sealed, and many of them can’t solve a simple quadratic equation.

I can’t help with my kids homework because they are doing something different than I was taught 40 years ago the Establishment WANTS to isolate you from your kids’ education.
They aren’t stupid enough to think that your kids will efficiently learn what you know by their method, but they decided that that doesn’t matter.

It’s (evil) politics.

Of course the only effective response is to homeschool, and tell them that they are relieved of their duty to teach your children because they are worthless at it.

My brother needed, and had, an aide because he was paralyzed. The aide complained to my brother that her son was failing Math. My brother, an engineer, volunteered to tutor the boy, and went to his house and asked to see the math book he was using. Upon inspection, there was no mathematics in that book. Nothing but BS with a political slant.

My brother was able to get the kid through it, and he ultimately graduated college with a Comp Sci degree.
