Inside Gibson’s, the atmosphere is quiet and subdued. It’s clear that this little business and its owners have endured a great deal in the past three years, beginning with student protests in front of the store in November 2016. The protesters denounced the Gibson family as racist and claimed the store had a long history of racial profiling (none of which is true). Evidence introduced at trial established that the college facilitated these protests and that at least one senior college official actively participated in them. Following the protests, the college suspended its 100-year business relationship with Gibson’s Bakery.

Seems the college has a treasure trove of very valuable art that the sale of two or three pieces could pay the $30 million they owe Gibsons.
Unfortunately the uber woke school won’t settle the affair and get on with life.
If Oberlin were to dry up and blow away it would be a good thing.
OTOH, just paying the Gibsons would also be a good thing.
The Woke culture has ambled down a path that leads to confusion and weakness. They are lost without the sense to know it or the wit to find their way out. They must perish and in their stead will arise a wisdom born of the failure of unicorns and fairies to show the way. When snowflakes melt the grass is watered and flowers bloom.

I have wondered if the Oberlin students mostly supported Gibson’s or the college.
I am not above a hideous pun indicating that they’re only in it for the Monet, but surely this example of Western Colonialist Oppressor White Privilege art should be considered dispensable by the excruciatingly Woke Oberlin administration? They seem to me to be acting like one of their students, deliberately running up the credit card debt beyond any hope of repayment, waiting for the creditors to offer to settle at pennies on the dollar. They’ve already out-waited one of the plaintiffs into the grave. Were I on the board the current administration would be looking for another job, but I’m not, and the ones who are have to be considered complicit in the scam. Too big to touch.
Maybe Nicholas Sandman’s attorney could have a go at them....if the college could be on the hook for his additional fees
I would think an art sale to acquire the $30M could be
sold and re-gifted back to Oberlin... No Art Sale. Better would be
give monies from the Offenders first thru asset seizure.
Then maybe give a building to the bakery so they could
rename it ‘Gibson’s Bakery’ on the campus with a plaque explaining its title transfer.. Something that hurts!
I think the only building the college owns that could satisfy the judgement is the hotel owned and operated by the college.
BUT the hotel is attached to the administration building and the college uses it as a recruitment tool putting up visiting prospective students and parents.
Another BUT is do the Gibsons want to operate a hotel? Doubtful.
Though it would be wickedly pleasant to have prospective students and their families stay at Gibsons Hotel, Oberlin and have a large plaque at the desk explaining how the family acquired the hotel.
The college has $80 million but most of that money is tied up in trusts so using it might be impossible.
And rainbows. I forgot rainbows.
