I just discovered "The Court Of The Crimson King" by King Crimson and it's a darn good song.

Posted on 01/25/2020 2:59:22 PM PST by SamAdams76

I think I played this song at least 10 times today.

I discovered this because I am building a playlist of songs that were popular a half century ago. I intend to carry this through for the rest of my life. The playlist is called "50 Years".

I was born in 1962 so I only started remembering music around the year 1970 but back then, it was Partridge Family, Archies, that type of stuff, because I was only 7 years old, you know.

But this song by King Crimson is EPIC. Turns out that the late Greg Lake did vocals. It's a 10+ minute masterpiece. Said to be the first real "prog-rock" album.

Here it is in all it's glory

Anyhow, it's great to discover music a half century after it came out. The album art is ugly but I'll post a lion down below, which is pretty cool.

Heavy duty song. I may still have that LP in my stash that has nothing to play it on.

So, did you taste the sweet and sour?

Or are you just a 21st century schizoid man???

(I may have listened to this album a time or two)

Oh, and if your interest is piqued, you may also want to have a look into Discipline. I don’t necessarily care for all of their stuff, but the title track on that album is pretty slick.

Born in 62 - you missed a LOT of great music!

I remember hearing this on Detroit’s premier freeform underground radio station, WABX FM. What a great era that was!

An amazing band for sure. Now check out their work from the 1980s. I got to see them perform once. They were fantastic.

Yes I did! By the time I started become really aware of pop music, The Beatles were disbanded and many greats like Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix and Jim Morrison were dead.

But I'm not complaining. Lot of great music in my time. Still, it's good to discover the older stuff. Another recent find of mine is the music of Gram Parsons and The Burrito Brothers.

60s music was the music of my youth. IMO it's *the* decade of classic rock...pop...Top 40...easy listening...folk.I'd advise you to look first at the British Invasion. The Stones,Beatles,Yardbirds,The Who and many, many others. From there move to pre Beatles Top 40.

I have the album (for like 35 years) and saw them at some small venue in Boston in the early ‘80s.

I saw him do that song with Ringo Stars All-Stars about 15 year ago. He was awesome. The whole album is worthwhile.

Here’s even better Greg Lake from his EL&P daze...

Emerson, Lake & Palmer: “Karn Evil 9 - 1st Impression - Part 2”

Welcome back my friends to the show that never ends
We’re so glad you could attend, come inside, come inside
There behind a glass stands a real blade of grass
Be careful as you pass, move along, move along

Come inside, the show’s about to start
Guaranteed to blow your head apart
Rest assured you’ll get your money’s worth
Greatest show in Heaven, Hell or Earth
You’ve got to see the show, it’s a dynamo
You’ve got to see the show, it’s rock and roll, oh
