It has often struck me, listening to the oldie pop songs from the 50s and 60s such as the above two, how very much the African-American artists shared with the majority whites the same ideals and aspirations for lasting love, fidelity and marriage, at least in their lyrics. Like this hit from the early summer of 1958.
