When California started requiring people to pass background checks to buy ammunition on July 1, hunters hoped for the best and braced for the worst. What happened was far worse than we feared.
The premise of the new law is that people who cant have guns shouldnt have ammo either. I dont know anyone who disputes that. Bad guys shouldnt have guns or ammo.
~~SNIP~~
Heres where it fell apart: The state Department of Justice finalized regulations to implement the law just before it took effect. There was no time, and no effort, to raise awareness, no time for gun owners to verify they were in the database, and most critically, that their ID matched their information in the database.
In the first four months, the checks thwarted 101 ammunition purchases by prohibited persons, and a staggering 62,000 purchases by people who had every right to buy ammunition. More than half of the rejections were due to data mismatches, such as an address change; one-third were because buyers werent in the database.

And that sucks because California citizens do hunt in Nevada.
There should be no legal risk to an out of state vendor for selling to a California resident outside of California since there is no legal nexus. But we know that AG Becerra is an asshat and would probably would file a nuisance suit against the vendor anyway. 03FFL/COE holders are allowed to purchase out of state for their own use and bring it back into CA.
That’s the main reason I got the 03FFL/COE. But luckily I just moved to Idaho 7 weeks ago...my first act of FU to Cali was to buy ammo from wherever the heck I wanted.
I don't necessarily agree. The only point in having either law is if you think it's going to work. If the gun law works, what are the bad guys going to do with the ammunition? If the gun law doesn't work, then neither will the ammo law, and there's no reason for either one to exist.
“All Walmart has to do on handgun ammo is require a concealed carry permit to be able to buy ammo. Simple.”
Where in the Constitution does
it say I need a permit to
carry a concealed weapon, or
a backround check prior to
weapons or ammo purchases?
No one needs to know if you
carry or not.
I know and understand. Walmart should at least sell handgun ammo to CHL holders so we CAN defend people in Walmart. Why is it so difficult for people to see this?
Easy solution. Move. My inlaws moved from Thousand Oaks, CA to CDA, ID. After moving in we took out and inventoried his modest gun collection from the 60s. FIL would have faced 1000 years in CA prison for his collection, mainly of M1 Carbines and magazines. 1000 years. Yep....now he is being introduced to the Inland and Winchester M2s (Title 2 NFA).
Thx - sometimes we on the right are just as bad at being fooled by misdirection as the left. Happily, DJT is so much better at it than the left. The left is very good at using our virtues, being law abiding, charitable and kind as weapons against us. We need to use their flaws and evil against them. Well, DJT does that and too many on the right protest because he is ‘mean’.
Well, do you know what the absolute coldest most brutal thing you can do to an evil person? Turn the other cheek. When you refuse to allow evil perpetrated against you to cause you to degrade yourself to that level in return, it makes them crazy. Then they go to such extremes that it is self-evident to everyone who the bad guy is.
DJT is master of that principle as well. How many times has he allowed them to get away with really bad behavior? He will talk about it, but there are a lot of really bad people that he has yet to fire or sue or arrest. Why? Well, the other description of ‘turning the other cheek’ is ‘giving them enough rope to hand themself’.
I am really enjoying this election cycle and watching a God inspired master of politics and war. How to win without spilling a drop of blood or breaking a single law. It is truly awesome to behold. I am so grateful to our President, and He who inspires him.
