California’s new ammo law hurts the wrong people — and doesn’t stop ‘bad guys’ with guns

When California started requiring people to pass background checks to buy ammunition on July 1, hunters hoped for the best and braced for the worst. What happened was far worse than we feared.

The premise of the new law is that people who can’t have guns shouldn’t have ammo either. I don’t know anyone who disputes that. Bad guys shouldn’t have guns or ammo.

~~SNIP~~

Here’s where it fell apart: The state Department of Justice finalized regulations to implement the law just before it took effect. There was no time, and no effort, to raise awareness, no time for gun owners to verify they were in the database, and most critically, that their ID matched their information in the database.

In the first four months, the checks thwarted 101 ammunition purchases by prohibited persons, and a staggering 62,000 purchases by people who had every right to buy ammunition. More than half of the rejections were due to data mismatches, such as an address change; one-third were because buyers weren’t in the database.

What’s wrong with buying in Nevada?

The “bad guys” most in need of severe action appear to be the vermin in the CA legislature.

Once those are cleaned out, we can take care of the lesser criminals.

Now that I live in MS I still carry around my CA Firearms Certificate.

You get one after you take a written Exam and pay the State of CA $25.00 for the privilege of exercising your Constitutional Right to own a Firearm...

I show it to the guys at the Gun Shop and we all have a laugh.

What if I sold pictures of ammo and with the purchase, I ship a free, “mystery gift”?

It’s not about saving lives or preventing ammo purchases by criminals. It’s about getting all gun owners in a single database. Watch Yuri Bezmenov’s video “Deception was my Job”.

Not sure I really understand this situation. Is this saying that Kalifornica has created a database of gun owners, and if you are not on the list, you cannot buy ammo? And some people are volunteering to put themselves in this database, so they can buy ammo?

Is this not the commie’s wet dream come true? A defacto gun owner registration list so they know where to go when the time comes for them to confiscate weapons?

So online ammo purchases in Cali are prohibited now?

No, you can buy ammo online, but you have to have it sent to a FFL dealer to pick it up after a background check. No more ammo delivered to your front door.

Walmart has major issues. The state has major issues with incremental gun control. IIRC, a decade old law there
carries Stiff Penalties.

Recognizing that air is an abundant and otherwise free resource, the airgun law contains tough provisions to prevent air rifle and pistol owners from filling their air canisters from non-approved sources. Any air rifle/pistol owner caught refilling canisters from a private pump or compressor will be subject to a $10,000 fine for the first offense, with criminal penalties (up to 5 years in prison) for repeat offenders.”
A $95 airgun air refilling permit is available in California renewable yearly.

A few years ago my son had 1000 rounds of Russian made and marked ammo delivered by UPS to our home for his Dragonov.
Guess ya can’t get that deal in Calif. huh?

If I remember, the Law says that you can’t bring in Ammo purchased in another State. Apparently CA is exempt from Interstate Commerce Statues.

That’s why they are also bitching about POTUS Trump rolling back their CARB Rules which are blatantly Unconstitutional. They were given a Federal “waiver” way back when the LA Basin had a Smog problem. That morphed into telling people that they could not bring in their 49 State Legal Smogged Car into CA.

I had some Liberal telling me how unfair it was because California’s unique topography doesn’t allow the air to move beyond the State. I guess CA is like a big Bio Dome. LOL

You hit a real solid point there. In essence this is a way to register gun owners. If you’ve signed up for this bull shit and buy 38, 40 and 45 cal ammo, then you will be logged into state records as having guns of that caliber. Same goes with 223 and 7.62, OMG!, assault rifles.

And if you buy on a regular basis you are actually confirming ownership at the time of each sale. Come confiscation time, you will have to explain why you bought such ammo. If you cannot turn in a gun of that caliber or explain the purchases, it’s jail time.

Meanwhile, the criminals (those that both break the law and write it) will be laughing their a$$es off.

Isn’t this just back door gun registration?

Ex: if you buy 9mm and they don’t have a record of you owning a 9mm pistol then you must have one.

I seriously doubt they are ever going to purge records, even for the law abiding.

Will they sell it to you though? Here in NH the stores in my area ask for state of residence. If you’re from MA the transaction is a no-go.

The new laws are designed to suppress freedom and control the masses.

I believe the laws are intended to incrementally end private firearms ownership in California. The politicians just won’t openly admit this...yet.

You can buy online or out of state, but the ammo must be shipped to a CA ammo dealer for you to pick it up. You cannot drive out of state, buy ammo and bring it back with you. CA already has handgun and long-gun registration.
