Add IRA to your first line.

Then, any of us with an IRA, Keough, or 401k own those shares.

That was Ron Chernow's argument in The Death of the Banker, a blessedly short book about how mutual funds have replaced banking dynasties like the Morgans, Rothschilds, and Warburgs. But there's still a lot of resentment against big stock market operators.
