Thus, the U.S. economy just added virtually the same number of jobs in one month that Canada has added for the entire year.

That is frankly not that surprising given that the population of the US is about 10x that of Canada. So a monthly job gain for the US = a yearly job gain for Canada is about the same ratio.

Exactly. Canada has maybe one tenth of the population of the U.S. So for them it's about the equivalent of losing 700,000 jobs....which is yuuuggggeee!
