FR is, among other things, the best news aggregator on the Internet. Name a story (worthy of news coverage) that wasn’t reported on FR within the hour that it broke. You can’t.

I wish FR was followed by more Americans.

So true on FR.

I’m convinced Rush Limbaugh’s stack of reports is just a compilation of FR articles

I know the topic and content as soon as he brings it up. I listen to him to get his take on it, otherwise nothing new and the FR commentary is actually better in many cases.

The nightly Faux shows worth watching same thing.

If you haven’t checked out this ally and companion to FR, please do.

Younger crowd. Best memes on the Interwebs (not counting the Chans, where you’d need to wade thru racist rants on a horrible user interface).

Agree. Best commentary, also.

Absolutely spot on. There is no better source of news, any and all news, anywhere on the web. The reason is simple. It is absolutely and completely an open forum for its users. When management posts they do so as a regular user. As a result respect for Jim is always at its zenith.
Monitors protect the site from vulgarity, personal attack - with the exception of hits on HG (who has rino skin) - copyright infringement, and pernicious hatred. I am always able to find the most current articles and comments about any and all issues of the day simply by scrolling posts. Free Republic is the center and heart of the WWW.
The only negative I have is the failure of users to support this site. The fact that we have prolonged fund raisers every quarter is an insult to the site.
Freeloaders who use the site extensively without providing support belittle themselves in the dark corner of their own privacy. I did so for years. Now I am trying to make up for my lack of personal responsibility. See to it you do the same. FR deserves your generous support.

FR is, among other things, the best news aggregator on the Internet.

Once upon a time, this was certainly true. I'm not sure that it applies today. The numbers and quality of the articles posted on FR have declined.

There are many reasons, including a few that I have noticed. Of course, because of copyright complaints, FR adopted rules limiting many article posts to excerpts, or perhaps even only an URL link. Paywalls limit our ability to read the entire article without applying cumbersome work arounds. It has become fashionable among Freepers to read only the excerpt or even only the title. Interesting or engaging threads do not follow from these behaviors and limitations.

Many articles don't generate any discussion, or a limited set of responses that resemble Facebook, Twitter, or News Web sites. Comments of a few words, sentence fragments, or 140 character responses have become the norm. I suspect that many long posts in threads are ignored, too much trouble to read those.

Long threads these days are likely to be tributes to recently passed Freepers or the Q Anon threads. At the last election, the election threads were so lame that I had to go to other sources for basic election results and election analysis was weak or completely absent. Gone are the days when a FR election thread was the only place you needed to go to see how the night was going.

Certainly the Left and the Trolls are quite pleased with this trend, and their efforts to disrupt this forum have had an effect along with the other changes that I have mentioned. Will FR return to its halcyon days? Freepers will decide.

it used to be. the staff had a case of neocon-itis and zotted hundreds, if not thousands, of followers, before Trump taught everyone it was ok to be conservative and not pro war at the same time.

It takes a while to recover from those type antics.
