We were paddled in my school. At first it was a sign of how tough you were if you could take it. But one teacher used a thin paddle with holes drilled in it. After that I realized it wasn’t cool anymore. I think we’re way beyond that now. Some of the teachers nowadays probably have PARENTS that didn’t live in the era of corporal punishment.

Third day of 6th grade teacher told a girl to put the gum she was chewing on her nose. She responded like a smart ass that she was not chewing gum, she was chewing her finger nail. Teacher did not like her attitude and gave her swats with the same type of paddle. Class was well under control after that. This was in the 60s.

Classroom spankings and such went out the window when parents started suing the schools while at the same time not teaching their own kids discipline.
You know in our day that whatever punishment we might have gotten in school was going to be much worse when we got home.......
