There are people, both male and female, that get off, sexually, on the fear and horror they cause when they rape. It is sexually exhalting for them.
This “its all about control” was a dumbing down for a quick sound bite and a one size fits all hammer in the hole fit.
There are people who are just plain evil that get off on rape for the sake of rape and are most very definitely attracted to the activity of rape for the sake of rape.
And there are those who rape as a means of establishing dominance like you pointed out.

A rapist DOES NOT have to be sexually attracted to his victim in order to initiate and commit the crime.
A man CAN rape another man while never consider himself to be gay. It happens all the time in prison.
Married pedophiles with children do it ALL THE TIME to young boys.
Because the crime IS about control does not mean that the rapist doesn’t get sexually excited, but it not happening because he thinks she’s pretty and wants to have sex with her, but doesn’t feel like asking.
