“Professional Tennis. I blame all downfall of society to a period in the 1970s when it became acceptable to wear gym clothes and tennis shoes and everyday wear. Professional Tennis had gained major steam and those branded tennis shoes replaced the leather lace ups. Exercise wear replaced slacks and shirts.

That is my story and I am sticking to it....it has all been down hill since then...”

Not sure about the cause you put forward, but it was definitely sometime in the early 1970’s.
