I saw Democrat Eric Swalwell explain last night that they need the secret room and restricted recordings/transcripts because they don't want to influence the testimonies of future witnesses. In other words, they don't trust them to tell the truth under oath. If it really is a SCIF, then one may not bring any electronics into the facility.
I would be willing to bet that many Dems took in their smart phones and smart watches. It doesn't matter if they weren't used for recording. They are NOT allowed and must be placed in the cabinet outside the SCIF.
(I've worked in several SCIFs).
