Appearing as guests on Thursday's CNN Tonight, former CBS anchor Dan Rather and former ABC anchor Sam Donaldson declared that President Donald Trump is "out-Nixoning Nixon" on the Ukraine issue, with Donaldson claiming that there is a "smoking transcript" and Rather suggesting that it is already time to "roll the credits on a mob movie" based on President Trump and Rudy Giuliani's activities.
At 10:46 p.m. Eastern, host Don Lemon introduced the segment: "The coverup, the tapes, and a President under a cloud of impeachment. Is President Trump out-Nixoning Nixon? Who better to ask than two legends?"

As Rather began his analysis, he suggested that the matter is worse than the Watergate scandal:
Certainly it's reminiscent of the Watergate period in the 1970s, but there is this big difference, and I do think we, you know, we need to kind of pause and assess where we are -- the gravity of the situation, but at the same time, remain calm. But what's different between what Richard Nixon did and what Donald Trump has already admitted to is this: It involves a foreign power.

My own personal belief is that drug abuse is rampant in our ruling class, including our leaders. Perhaps some use narcotic drugs to keep physical pain in check or perhaps they became addicted through legal means, but the numbing of the brain's frontal lobes occurs regardless of the means of addiction. This is close to home for me because a close relative of mine is a highly educated professional who has struggled with addiction for 20 years, ruining her career and her relationships with everyone. The family stopped covering for her so that she was forced to reveal her problem to save her marriage and her close relationships. She lost her job and her professional license. I once read that a pharmacist in Washington D.C. made the statement that his pharmacy delivered Alzheimer's medications to Capitol Hill on a regular basis. I totally believe that and I believe that the insanity, the lies, and the willingness to destroy this nation, it's success and it's future possibility to give a better life to all our people is in jeopardy because of a few who were given powerful channels to enrich themselves through corrupt dealings and abuse of others. The best thing which could happen is to have real whistle blowers who would come forth without fear to tell what they know about those in positions of power over us who are substance abusers or hypocrites. A deep cleansing is desperately needed.

I recall on another thread about Donaldson, another Freeper made the comment that Donaldson (and you could certainly also include Rather) is what happened to American journalism.
