Definitely use false or slightly altered information. If you want to use your real name so that family & friends can find you ok... But make sure everything else is just a little (or a lot) off. (*)

When, and it probably is when not "if" hackers get your information you don't want them to be able to steal your identity. Heck, you don't want fb and it's partners using it either.

I have a fb account I use only to keep up with a neighborhood page/group and keep in touch with a couple of friends miles away. I follow several other pages/users like Colion Noir and the NRA just to cheeses off fb.

(*) I will admit I use the same technique here on FR. If I happen to mention people, places, times, etc. there's a chance I may have slightly altered some unimportant detail - or not. The reason is, I don't want anyone building up a profile of me. I know there are lib lurkers here. Further, I know there are some fairly unstable people out there. I also know that most of what gets said here angers leftists because it challenges their world-view, calls out their hypocrisy, ignorance, and true motivations. I don't want some obsessed lefty deciding to make trouble for me IRL. So, any lib lurkers out there trying to do just that? You've been put on notice, probably at least half the information in your profile of me is inaccurate. Guess what's real and what isn't. May the odds be ever in your favor. Oh, and that's not the only technique I'm using either...but we'll just let the rest be a surprise.

I changed my birthday and some spelling. It’s funny when my birthday shows up on my Facebook my friends are confused because it’s months off my “real” birthday.
