If it makes you feel better, yeasts are actually fungus, not bacteria.

My wife is quite the baker but we've never tried cast iron pizza. Plenty of cast iron steaks but nothing with dough.

We will have to give this a try.

Save for the gas picking up the pizza, ordering and picking up a pizza is probably cheaper if cost is your main driver.

I made one of those a few years ago. It was great! I learned as a kid to make them using camp fires, but there was an online Pizza Hut recipe I followed and it came out perfect.

“ I had a fear of working with yeast because it is a type of bacteria.”

No, it isn’t. Yeast is a fungus.

Yeasts are not a type of bacteria. Yeasts belong to an entirely separate Kingdom: Fungi.

I am kind of lazy and like to use Rhodes frozen bread dough for “homemade” pizza crust. But my other shortcut is using our bread machine to mix up the ingredients and knead the dough.

Bread dough you make yourself typically has a lot more yeast than store bought bread and even store bought frozen bread dough. If you eat a lot of it, you start to smell yeasty and it does increase your chance of getting an itchy yeast infection infection in sweaty or moist areas of your body. It is typically more of a problem for women but it can cause a “jock itch” type problem for men, or a stinky belly button.

Mushrooms are fungus to put it in a food context. However since we have developed double rising yeast strains Candita albicans is a fungus that tries to eat us..

Had to reply to this thread as I just finished making pizza dough.

We do it in a bread machine, enough for four+ pizzas, then refrigerate the dough for when we wish to make pizza — usually twice a week.

Our deep dish pizza dough is different than ‘every day’ pizza dough as it has some corn meal in it and we make it in a cast iron pan. It’s a winter thing. AND it’s wonderful.

We create pizza sauce with tomato sauce (read the label on tomato sauce - too many have sugar in them) and a few spices.

In the winter we prebake the crust on a pizza stone inside, on hot summer days it’s prebaked on a stainless pizza’ stone’ I had fabricated for the grill. When prebaking you must ‘dock’ the dough or it will create large bubbles...

Toppings can be anything you like but you should shred your cheese instead of using pre-shredded (too many additives).

Home-made pizza is easy, sorta fun and has much less crap in it than any store/pizza delivery pizza will ever have...

If anyone wishes to have our dough or pizza sauce recipes please PM me.

We’ve been doing it for YEARS and it’s worth the small effort.

Have a wonderful fall, FRiends!

Tortillas make awesome thin crust pizzas. No yeast either. PS they cook a lot faster! 5-7 mins tops.

What would happen if you used rolled biscuit dough for the crust?

Loved your video, so fun! This is the only way I will eat pizza & my fav. You just can't go back to any ole' pizza after tasting this! Not sure what cast iron you're using, but if you can get ahold of an 'old' vintage cast iron pan (ebay, online, garage sales, flea markets - look for Wagner, Griswald, Birmingham Stove, or lodge/anything made before 1957), well worth the effort & affordable. Mfg before casting methods changed to modern sand cast methods, like modern lodge with the rough, finish. I have my grandmother's cast iron, from the 40's. (Taking it with me when I leave this earth, too😂) Smooth as a baby's, well, you know. Use lodge also, but you just can't beat the smooth, vintage surface not made any longer. A company by the name of the Field Company uses 'old' casting techniques. Haven't personally tried, but on my wish list https://fieldcompany.com You can also make your pizza dough (I use instant yeast + bread flour) in 5 hours, no kneading! Takes just a couple minutes to mix, cover for 3 hours. Put dough in your cast iron covered for 1 hr, preferably 2. This is the method I personally use & tastes just the same as rising your dough overnight. Mix the dough in the morning, pizza for dinner! Here is the recipe I use https://www.jennycancook.com/recipes/easy-pan-pizza/ It has never failed & you can also freeze the dough. It's so easy though, I never do. Really enjoyed your post & look forward to you seeing you play around with your new found pizza love!
