It may just be a kind of virtue signaling, everybody by now knows it’s all BS, but by knowingly repeating a well known falsehood he is indicating his willingness to continue to lie about everything else. See this kind of thing on the left quite a bit. They just manufacture “hate crimes” if whitey isn’t hateful enough. At all costs, the Narrative must be maintained. That’s what this is about.

It “could” have happened, that’s what they’d say if you pointed out it is a fabrication, and by golly, that’s just as bad. Facts, logic, reason, don’t factor in their world. Only emotion. Facts don’t care about feelings, but their feelings don’t care about facts. Your speech is violence, their violence is speech.

I remember when Charley Rogers’ elaborate hate hoax was exposed in Omaha, NE, after weeks of high-level federal investigation into her claimed “hate crime” victimization. The final response from the “gay community” when she was exposed as a liar? “Well, it could have happened, and the societal homophobia in the area is what drove her to do what she did.”
