Trump is the Last President. This nation cannot hold an election anyone respects.
Trump is the Last President. This nation cannot hold an election anyone respects.
I say it this way: Trump is the last president that will finish his term in any of the conventional ways, assuming he finishes this one.
It’s gotten worse with every election cycle, but it’s gotten so bad that I think we are politically paralyzed. I expect there will be hell to pay no matter who wins in 2020.
So, has the USA been “fundamentally transformed”?
“Trump is the Last President. This nation cannot hold an election anyone respects.”
In the spring of 1968 America was being polarized by the Vietnam War, riots, counterculture, and many other factors, far worse than today (I was in college awaiting my callup for Vietnam).
Before RFK was assassinated in June of that year, Esquire magazine ran a cover article proclaiming, “Robert Kennedy sworn in as Acting President of the United States”.
Ignoring the approaching rise of Richard Nixon, Esquire presumed that the U.S. was already ruled by the Democratic Party with its Congressional majorities, SCOTUS majorities, and White House dominance. That the Democrats were in near total chaos with LBJ dropping out with no clear frontrunner and no clear strategy for disengagement from Vietnam, made the editors conclude that a conventional election in 1968 was impossible & that the Dem Congress would have to exert extraordinary powers to install a new Chief Executive.
Our biggest worry for 2020 is widespread and unresisted voter fraud. But there’s hope: the sheer impact of modern telecommunications has made Deep State chicanery not impossible, but problematic. Meanwhile the Dem candidate field is a joke; Dem candidates in 1968 were statesmanlike in comparison and none were the America-haters we have today.
Trump will win in 2020; it just scares me how a nation’s entire destiny hinges upon the wisdom and health of one man (and DAMN you Republicans for making it so!)
2024 will be the year CWII breaks out, in my opinion.
