Great observation.

“When plunder becomes a way of life for a group of men in a society, over the course of time they create for themselves a legal system that authorizes it and a moral code that glorifies it.” ― Frédéric Bastiat

Reconcile that with Ayn Rand's observation; "When the law no longer protects you from the corrupt, but protects the corrupt from you - you know your nation is doomed."

So again, why do we elect corruptible representatives?

The answer is to give them the bare minimum amount of power and money to do their job and to watch them like a hawk.

The founders provided the bare amount of power by limiting government legislative powers but the people neglected to fulfill their part.

"The condition upon which God hath given liberty to man is eternal vigilance; which condition if he break, servitude is at once the consequence of his crime, and the punishment of his guilt."

One of the corruption-free men to ever occupy the White House is attacked 24/7 for daring to fight the corrupt Permanent State.

Your answer is the public can’t judge who’s corrupt, the representative cover for each other in their fraud, the media is a paid shill for The System.

That’s a start anyway...

If anyone at the congressional\senate level has been in office more then 10 years (2 terms Senate - 12 years, 5 terms House - 10 years) they have very likely slipped over into “corruption” and may not even know it.

A decade in DC is plenty, they need to go home and experience the effect of their governing genius before they can come back. And I mean go home! back to your district and state.

The argument is the same for state and local politicos!
No more career politicians!

I agree. And the same should apply to government bureaucrats in general, because they are the powers behind the elected representatives.

And I have proposed before that we scatter federal agencies to the wind and have them located across the 50 States. When corporations want to get rid of a bloated bureaucray, they relocate. Maybe that’s a key reason Amazon is building a new headquarters. People get too comfortable in any organization.

With modern communications its ridiculous to have everything in DC. The standard O&M of government should move it out into the continental US. In spite of what federal unions will tell many guvies would welcome that. It would mean for them cheaper cost of living, less crime, and better non-work life style for families. It would take pressure off continuously increasing government salaries. Again something federal unions would hate! Also such a move would enhance continuity of government if something really really really bad happens! DC should evolve to where its strictly where Congress & President meet & conducts business. (Note: Congress has a billion dollar plus bureaucracy supporting it. The Office of the White House is its own agency & bureaucracy) Let that be the bureaucracy in DC. Use DC for tourism & whatever pomp & circumstance are necessary.
