All the Federal levels are vitally important. To think otherwise is a huge waste of resources and a crapshoot, since the nation keeps getting bigger and minting more lawyers and activists, but the SCOTUS is limited to a certain number of cases it can logically hear; unless you want most SCOTUS cases to be handled primarily by their law-student clerks, because that's what will happen if we keep expecting every case to have to go to them before basic Constitutional principles will be definitively upheld by the appellate courts in clear Constitutional terms.
