I think we have plenty already. There a plenty of opportunities to watch and play. I recently watched the cornhole championship and urban axe throwing on ESPN. I couldn’t believe I was watching them, but I liked seeing “real people” doing something they were good at and enjoyed. There is something innately human about friendly physical competition. Spectator sports can be a fun and relaxing diversion. I have never gone overboard either as a player or a spectator because I have intellectual and cultural interests that are more important to me. One major problem with overemphasis on sports is that it can take away from more worthy pursuits. My brother-in-law and nephews can tell you about every college basketball game on a given weekend, but none of them have read a single book since they left college.
More professional sports? No way. More softball teams, Tai-Chi in the park, tennis tournaments, hiking clubs, 5k races, etc, yes! We Americans need to get off our collectively soft, wide, behinds, turn off ESPN and get some exercise.
There should be more encouragement for young people to participate in sports.
Yes beautifully put! Wow!
No. Professional sports is just a big scam to make money. And the college teams are heading in the same direction.
Spectator sports and sitcoms, opiates for the masses.
Thanks but I left out going to church, getting up by 7am, saying yes maam/sir and no maam/sir, grounded if grades fell, thank you/ no thank you, can I help, and pass the??? Please at dinner every night. Not to mention reading to mom or writing a report on what I read to a teacher or mom. Dad teaching me to use a skill, chain, table or jig saw and drive by 13, shoot by 12, and throw hay at 15. I was taught my date is home by 12:00, me by 1am. Stay out late still up at 7am. It all still makes me smile.
All that too, yes all of it.
So far we have fallen.
Hell no...we already jumped the shark with professional corn hole.
yes we need more sports teams, just not the insulting NFL!
Maybe, just possibly, the free market will determine !
Less or none. Makes no difference to me.
Definitely, we need more opiates for the masses.
There have been scattered reports that some Americans actually woke up from their stupor.
In fact, the vicarious entertainment aspect has competently turned me off to most sports these days.=====
Parents using their kids in sports and entertainment comes to mind.
Only if it means full sponsorship for my sports-race car! ;-)
As to “Team” sports, golf, etc., nah.
we should do it for real. cities should arm up, gear up, and invade nearby cities.
do it for real.
. . . and for God’s sake, no instant replay.
Yeah. Bring back the trebuchets.
Jeez No! We’re a nation of couch potatoes already that sit around in a stupor watching that stuff. It’s mind control for the masses designed to keep us keep us docile and pliant.
Get outside and actually do something that improves yourself as a person, see nature as God made it. Go fishing or hunting, go hike to the top of a hill and read a book in the sunshine. Do something other than sit in front of a TV or sit in a stadium with drool running down your chin.
Yeah, just what we need...more goons to try to tell us how horrible we are while they do their drugs and beat their wives. A piece of society that needs purging not expansion.
rwood
We need some of this!
