I have actually had this nightmare. Stop invading my brain.
I fear that this will happen. I am a Millennial, but not an idiot, and looking to move to a red county in a red state. I’m in Chicago, so if war happens I’m done for, as I only have maybe 3 months of medicine and just so much ammo.
One of several things may happen:
1.) A leftist will win the presidential election, and we will keep having party swaps during each cycle, such as the red sweep in Congress during Obama’s administration and the blue takeover of the House recently. This will delay war, but result in further animosity between parties due to an attempt to push partisan bills into law, but obstruction from opposition congressmen and judges. This will continue through presidential elections as well until someone somewhere (a politician or civilian) loses their sh!t and kills a lot of people in the name of ideology.
2.). Libertarians, moderates and Independents will start taking pieces out of both parties in terms of votes, and it will force extremists in either party further to the edge, thus exposing them as utterly insane while encouraging bipartisanship. This would not be likely, but would ideally create a bridge between parties as a wake up call.
3.) Conservatives, moderates and right-leaning Independents and Libertarians turn out in record numbers and elect another (somewhat) Conservative, though likely suffering losses in Congress. More judges are placed, to a degree offsetting liberal policies Trump’s administration could not do away with.
Unfortunately I see either #1 or a version of it, the worst outcome, which is a complete liberal takeover and empowerment of the radical elements of the Democratic Party, causing provocation of the opposition and an eruption of violence. I trust other Libertarians and Conservatives to withhold violence, but definitely not radical Liberals.
Just after I posted this, they just introduced a bill to ban all plastic eating utensils.
