Useless to ask “When did Trump ever say any such thing?” because these people are living in their own little fantasy with themselves cast as superheroes. In that little world they’re morally infallible and they never lose an election, men can be women and women, men. It’s “their truth”. It’s “their world” and they’re going to make the rest of us live in it or else.
First the dishonest media uses a qualifier like “basically” and put words that Trump never said in quotation marks, which can now mean that the writer believes Trump would say it. Later they drop the qualifier and other equally dishonest media outlets use the made up words as direct quotes. Soon they are believed by the willing uninformed public. It’s an infuriating strategy used over and over.
