I could be wrong, but I thought Stillson was a democrat in the novel.

Not that it was of any significance to the character when the novel was written, he was still a scumbag.

One thing I found interesting is that Stephen King received hate mail from readers because Stillson kicked a dog to death in the novel.

That's right, hate mail about a fictional character, doing a fictional act.

Now any normal author would realize that his haters were living in Crazytown, and would likely turn libertarian/right.

Only a lunatic would take a fable seriously, right?

King instead MOVED to Crazytown and became the mayor.
