It's just under 16 kilograms

My daughter will be getting married in October wearing her grandmother’s (my mother’s) dress from 1956. It suits her style and personality well, and it was all her idea. Cost $0. Minor alterations $50. We are all so proud of her!

I purchased a simple new wedding dress for $400. We are still together 23 years later. I could never understand big weddings and expensive dresses.

What a beautiful dress!

It’s so very classic and not slutty like so many are these days.

That’s $44 US which is about what I paid for mine new at Sears. Our whole wedding (gown, groom’s suit, venue, cake, invitations, preacher, etc.) was less than $500 and it was much nicer than the one we attended two weeks later where the gown alone was 10 times more. It’s crazy to spend a fortune on a couple of hours when they should be using the money for bills, college tuition, a house and future kids.

“we still have all the letters he sent her, I’ve never read them. Dad is 93, but out of respect I would never pry into that.)”

100% agree. I dislike this trend of putting men’s love letters from war zones out there for the world to read. People have no clue. Those men were sitting in a hole, the cab of a truck, in a corner of a barracks by themselves. They wrote like nobody else would see it.

You can always count on some chicks to tear other ones down at every turn.

A lot nicer than 99.99% of the slut bridal dresses one sees on shows like “Yes to the Dress”

Yuck....and Bridezilla’s. The ads promoting these two shows tells me all I need to know....that I have NO DESIRE to watch either one........now, I must say, this young lady looked beautiful in this equally beautiful dress. Looks like it was sewn perfectly just for her.....best wishes to the couple........;)

I had to read the actual article, because "I knew" that there had to be more to the story, e.g. there were real diamonds woven into the lace. But I was wrong, the article title is the whole story.

What's next, "Man finds a case of beer by the river"?

Well OK then, I'll give one of my great "finds." I was in a pawn shop and saw a nice gold ladies ring. From the style, it was from Thailand and it had a shiny clear stone in the center. That style of ring did not come with stones, so someone had added it later. At the time of the event, it was not uncommon for pawn shops to sell old inventory at the market price of gold, so that is what I offered. I paid about $100 and my wife got a nice ring for her birthday. That the ring fit, was an added bonus. I presumed that the pawn shop had tested the stone, so I figured it was a zircon. Move forward a few years and my wife wanted the setting for the stone tightened up, because it had become lose. The jewelry shop owner, told her that he had never seen that style of ring have a diamond in it. Yep, it was a high quality .75 carat diamond (color D, SI1).

Every expensive wedding I have gone to over the past 45 years has ended up in divorce! Every one & I’ve attended several times more then just one wedding. (My threshold of “expensive” is cost of average well maintained car - like a 5-10 year old Accord. Average cost US weddings are now at $29K)

I like very few wedding gowns or bridesmaid dresses. I always like those wedding gowns passed down by a mother or grandmother and some select other designers but that is just me.

I made a find almost that good at a pawnshop in Savannah.

Now typically they sell stuff which is either over priced or way overpriced. It is worth the time to check them out tho.

I was looking at binoculars and noticed one on their top shelf behind the counter. I thought I could see the E. Leitz symbol on it but the price was $1200.00.

That sort of irritated me as they do sell for that much and more but not used ones. As I was trying to see for sure, I realized there was a period after the 12. It was priced at $12.

I calmly asked to see it while my heart was pounding. Sure enough it was a Leitz (Leica) and the price was only $12.00.

I told the guy that I would take it and he wrote it up. He sort of laughed a couple of times and told me that it was really worth $70 or $80. I told him truthfully that I didn’t know that.

I sold it a few weeks later at a gun show to a Dr. for $350.00. He and I both got a great deal.

Mrs. L paid around $200 for her wedding dress. We have been married 20 years now. The dress is still hanging on the back of the bathroom door right where she took it off. LOL.

Best,

L
