One of the apparent attractions of Communism for some Jews was its militant atheism and overt hostility to the church.
I used to read Commentary Magazine some back in the ‘80s and I recall one brouhaha they had over whether or not Jews should see evangelical Christians as allies.

I think that probably is the motivation for many.
However, the colleges were not going to throw away $15,000 a year, per body, just because these kids were marginal. ED are taught how to teach children to camp, fish, (Seriously, classes on how to teach a kid to bait a hook!), read and write, after a fashion, and most of all, that all children are absolutely equal, and that classes MUST be paced for the slowest child there. This has been going on for 40 years.
No wonder children hate school.
That hostility to excellence is why I home schooled.
