Under English law, any reporting (even in a newspaper) about an ongoing jury trial is considered "contempt of court" (on the theory that it might influence the jury).

Very different here in the U.S., of course.

A crucial aspect of Tommy's defense is that the trial was NOT on-going. The trial was finished and the defendants found guilty. Tommy filmed them, and tried to interview them, as they arrived for sentencing. Because the trial was over, the court posted no reporting restrictions for that day.
