Then their records are at least 2 decades out of date. Closer to 3 decades actually. And property tax records should set them straight. No ‘farm’ there in over 2 decades.

As I said, it’s hinky they did this less than a year after my daddy died. Daddy would have had the lawyer send them a letter telling them to pound sand. But the letter to my mother was a bully letter. Basically telling her ‘we’re going to rape you, lie down and take it’.

You or your family is likely getting an AG (agricultural) exemption from the local county. That seems to let the feds think they have some rights. That’s how that parcel is on the list.

The price you pay for lower taxes I guess. I ignore them and they let it go.

Then my advice is refuse them entry into the property, it is her right.

There is no ‘ag’ with that property.

It’s just a house with a few acres in the front yard.

No cows, no horses, no ‘farm’ at all. She has a small kitchen garden but hardly a ‘farm’. Her kitchen garden was bigger when she lived in town 30 years ago.

I often watch the TV program “What On Earth”.

Space satellites have fantastic cameras that provide great detail and measurements. One pass could easily survey the property in the daylight. The images sent down can be magnified to provide greater detail.

We’d rather try the lawyer route first...

I totally get that. But don't be surprised if the USDA manipulates the court to get their way. It is the government's modus operandi when they want to take over.

When all else fails, call the militia.
