And truth be told, one can easily make the case that the religious clause of the first amendment is idiotic.

” Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof”

So we should allow any religion to freely EXERCISE their belief system, including killing of the infidels, female genital mutilation, treating women as cattle, etc.?

I somehow think this present situation with islam never occurred to the Founding Fathers. I think it was totally off their radar as islam was not the threat then that it is today.

I think if they had a clue about how that Amendment was going to be misused, they would have worded it differently.

It reminds me of raising kids. You can try to think of all the tings they can get into and warn them about it and they'll find the one thing you never mentioned and run with it.

There's ALWAYS something you never expect.

But today we should know better, yet, even today, those words are treated as unassailable gospel.

The real point is a society does much better in a monocultural system. By that I mean a system where important cultural values are widely agreed upon, dominant, and protected.

It is the reason multiculturalism has proven to be such a failure. You can’t have belief systems that are diametrically opposed living next to each other and expect peaceful coexistence. And religions are the chief carriers of moral values.
