I know what you mean, and I don’t disagree, but there is a real tinge of black from when the Brits burned it during the War of 1812. Apparently there are some bricks that have purposely not been painted over that show the black from the fire. They’ve been preserved to serve as a kind of cautionary tale for all Presidents.
