Kanye West Fires Back at David Letterman: Liberals ‘Bully’ Trump Supporters Like Me
The Daily Beast ^ | May 23, 2019 | Matt Wilstein

“Oh god, I’m scared,” David Letterman says. He’s pacing backstage before his interview with Kanye West for the first episode of his Netflix show’s second season. The first season of My Next Guest Needs No Introduction kicked off with President Barack Obama, but Letterman seems genuinely more nervous about sitting down with Kanye.

The hour-long conversation that follows—this episode along with four others all start streaming next Friday, May 31—is not only one of the best interviews Letterman has ever conducted, it’s also one of the most coherent and engaging interviews Kanye has ever given, even if it does go off the rails at times.

Over the course of the episode, the two men cover many subjects including music, fashion and Kanye’s relationships with his mother, who passed more than a decade ago, and his father, who is still alive. Throughout the episode, Kim Kardashian West can be seen in the audience smiling or nodding thoughtfully depending on the topic.

Midway through, there is an excursion to the couple’s house, where Letterman spends several minutes trying on pieces from the Yeezy collection—and goes home looking pretty fantastic in his new ensemble. “You look really good,” Kim tells him.

I read the article...and I am genuinely surprised the Daily Beast printed it. It was a great interview. He talked about the bullying that Trump supporters deal with and he said something really really worth passing on..

“I have a friend who told me that my power is my influence,” Kanye continues. “And I said my power is my ability to not be influenced.”

Call me cray, but I’m old white person with a graduate degree, and I like Kanye. He is very creative and intellectually curious, and has a great sense of style and beauty arising of his individual milieu.

Okay, I’ll go ahead and admit it; I like that song, We Don’t Care, and Gold Digger quite a bit.

As Kanye’s friend Candace Owens said, “Liberals believe they own black people.”

they really believe blacks are property — THEIR property. Someone like Kanye or Candace is stolen property.

Their view of black people hasn’t changed in 250 years. only the color of the
hoods has changed.

Okay, I’ll go ahead and admit it; I like that song, We Don’t Care, and Gold Digger quite a bit.

"Gold Digger" lyrics are hilarious! "We Don't Care" is more like slam poetry than a song, but it hangs together in those terms. I also like "Can't Tell Me Nothing", the video for "Runaway," and some of his gospel stuff.

He lifted a lot of the imagery from the cinematograpy of "Jesus Walks" from "O Brother Where Art Thou," but I like the gospel content of the lyrics appealing to the rap audience—and also how he incorporated that old vaudeville comedy trope, "feet(s) don' fail me now" and turned it around to something seriously life-changing.

I find it encouraging when he questions the so called mainstream.

It really is a plantation, and he is straddling two worlds with his immersion into Kardashianity. I hope he stabilizes his bipolar -- most people would be, given his circumstances -- and continues his very creative career. Kanye can do more for racial healing that most politicians, as did the Motown musicians and their contemporaries.

BTW, I also like the look of some of his (overpriced) clothing line.
