RUSH: There is fire at the Notre Dame cathedral in Paris, and it looks huge. The wooden roof appears to be on the way to becoming fully engulfed. There was originally just a small plume of smoke that came out of it from a distant photographer, but now they’ve got news cameras in there, and it is massive, this fire at Notre Dame.
It has preempted coverage of the imminent release of the Mueller report on all of cable news.

RUSH: Notre Dame Cathedral continues to burn. The main spire there has collapsed. That’s one of the identifying architectural aspects of the cathedral. All the pictures that I have seen — and I haven’t had a chance to gaze for a long time at any of it — I don’t see any firefighting. I don’t see any water being sprayed on this — ah. There’s some. There’s some. But not on the main blaze. I guess they’re trying to save other parts of the roof. Looks like it’s a wood roof that’s just going up like balsa.

Works both ways. Muslim terrorism and recent attacks on churches in France including the beheading of a priest makes vandalism totally believable, but the age of the wood in the building, flammability of so many other materials and ongoing work on the structure point just as strongly to a work accident/code violation or act of carelessness.
No sense in jumping to conclusions until investigators take a crack at it.

It was going through an intense restoration project and the fire was probably an accident from that. But, at the same time France has had an average of 3 churches attacked by vandals per day for 3 years. So I wouldn't entirely rule out vandalism on this one.

It is a significant event and is a portent of things to come. What, only God knows. But yes, everything happens for a specific reason and is part of a chain of events. Let he who has eyes to see, and who has ears to hear.

207 years ago during the War of 1812. Security since has kept it intact.
Churches are burning all over France. Their gendarmeries should have been on high alert for such a symbol of their history.
An appalling tragedy.
Terrible loss for France, for history, and for the world.
Accidental? About as accidental as the two planes that happened to hit another set of twin towers. Please. What are the odds? Holy Week, months of church-attacks, renovations that apparently employ workers of any and all religious beliefs, France’s utter failure to combat rampant Islam, France’s inability to foresee the junction of these facts with an essentially wooden building on what is probably the most visited island in the world. How were these signs missed? Were there ANY security precautions? ANY plans for disaster or disaster-recovery? The French government may be as guilty as the arsonists.
Stopped by the house on my lunch break; wife told me it took over an hour for the first fire crews to arrive on the scene. Any truth to that report?
