You obviously haven't studied much in the way of music theory or history, let alone the music industry in general. The US has been around barely 250 years, music dates back 1000's.
Floating around in the Gulf of Tonkin at zero dark thirty on a starry night with nothing going on I would tune in AM stations on this humongous beast of a receiver we had in the radio shack. It was, of course, connected to really good antennae on the 03 level of the Tin Can. I got lots of Chinese, Vietnamese and probably Laotian or Cambodian stuff but sometimes I could tune in XTRA from Tijuana and listen to Wolfman Jack. Then I was in heaven.
