Thanks LJ - lots of info there.
One question - after the cancer event, did you change your diet? If so, how?
No change in diet. The cancer wasn’t caused by diet. For decades I’ve avoided entire all junk food, pre-pared food, any chemicals, artificial anything. Almost all organic or locally or home grown produce, organic grains and legumes etc. I haven’t eaten meat in more than 50 years, for ethical reasons. I’ve also studied nutrition to make sure I fed my family well.
Berberine is the substance in Barberry, and it is found in many different plants, let me look.

Wow, lots of plants! It never tastes good, sort of bitter. Has many uses. Thanks for asking, I need to post more on this thread. Takes my mind off of icky news, and if the info helps others, so much the better.
Thank you so much for posting all of this helpful information. God bless you.
Hat tip to Keflavik76 for this info about moringa. If you live in tropical or subtropical climates, you can grow this tree. It is very fast growing, and the pods are edible food as well. The leaves, especially the tender younger leaves, can be cooked as a vegetable.
Moringa oleifera as an Anti-Cancer Agent against Breast and Colorectal Cancer Cell Lines - PubMed (nih.gov)
These findings suggest that both the leaf and bark extracts of Moringa collected from the Saudi Arabian region possess anti-cancer activity that can be used to develop new drugs for treatment of breast and colorectal cancers.
Anti-Cancer and Medicinal Potentials of Moringa Isothiocyanate - PubMed (nih.gov)
There are multiple variants of ITCs in M. oleifera, but the predominant phytochemical is 4-(α-L-rhamnosyloxy)benzyl isothiocyanate, also known as moringa isothiocyanate (MIC-1). Studies have shown that MIC-1 has the possibility to be used clinically for the treatment of diabetes, neurologic diseases, obesity, ulcerative colitis, and several cancer types.

Moringa decreased pancreatic cancer cell survival and metastatic activity and significantly inhibited tumor growth.
Moringa Oleifera Seed Extract Concomitantly Supplemented with Chemotherapy Worsens Tumor Progression in Mice with Triple Negative Breast Cancer and Obesity - PubMed (nih.gov)
Caution should be taken when considering the consumption of moringa seed extracts while receiving chemotherapy for breast cancer treatment.
BTTT!!!
Thx, much lj!
The woman who heals what medicine can't:
Gladys McGarey.
This 103-year-old doctor says true healing comes from within, not drugs.
Here are her 7 forgotten laws for optimal health and longevity: 🧵 pic.twitter.com/hT7MbxBaEo— Brian Maierhofer (@IamProHuman) September 28, 2024
First off, Dr. McGarey is a legend.
She’s known as the mother of holistic medicine and credits her graceful aging to the holistic practices she’s followed throughout her life.
Let's dive into it ↓— Brian Maierhofer (@IamProHuman) September 28, 2024
1) Love as medicine
Science has shown that holding onto negative emotions will eventually make us sick.
She believes that feelings of love and happiness relax your nervous system, reduce stress, and promote healing & youth.
You can choose health by choosing to let go pain from your heart. pic.twitter.com/gJOgYzmLzb— Brian Maierhofer (@IamProHuman) September 28, 2024
2) Trust in God
Gladys claims we can heal physically and mentally using God-given resources: food, community and our brains.
She teaches that trust in God can activate the body’s natural healing abilities by reducing fear, stress, and resistance.
This inner toolkit helps us overcome any illness and stay young.— Brian Maierhofer (@IamProHuman) September 28, 2024
3) Life's Purpose
She believes that many illnesses and emotional struggles arise when individuals are disconnected from their life’s purpose.
This alignment brings a sense of peace, direction, and energy that supports both physical and emotional health. pic.twitter.com/Cell4KyUEK— Brian Maierhofer (@IamProHuman) September 28, 2024
4) Human Connection
"You can't be healthy in isolation."
Human relationships, especially those filled with love, provide the emotional and spiritual support necessary for healing & longevity.
Nourishing and loving relationships should be a daily priority.— Brian Maierhofer (@IamProHuman) September 28, 2024
5) Exercise
Exercise is essential. It boosts:
• Mental health (endorphin rush)
• Skin (improved circulation)
• Heart, bones, and muscles (increased strength)
But, Gladys says it's more than just physical exercise. Constantly keeping in motion is good for our spirit and life force. pic.twitter.com/wx37sTSWfE— Brian Maierhofer (@IamProHuman) September 28, 2024
6) Alternative Therapies
McGarey stresses the importance of mind-body practices like meditation, yoga, tai chi, and mindfulness in maintaining health and preventing illness.
These therapies, help reduce stress, improve emotional well-being, and activate the body's natural healing processes.
Healing is an internal process that needs to be activated through practice.— Brian Maierhofer (@IamProHuman) September 28, 2024
7) Mind-Body Medicine
Science shows that the mind and body are deeply connected—emotional and mental stress often show up as physical illness.
Dr. McGarey teaches that our thoughts and emotions directly impact our physical health.
That's why it's crucial to reduce stress, nurture loving relationships, and maintain a positive attitude in life.— Brian Maierhofer (@IamProHuman) September 28, 2024
What a beautiful treasure Dr Gladys McGarey is!!
Thank you so much for this ping.
I look forward to studying this “young” lady!
Thanks for the info. just ordered some.
re rosacea and the med metronidazole
My derm doc gave me that as a topical. I used it for a month and it didn’t help.
I have noticed - by food journaling - that sugar and / or white flour flares it up. So, I stay away from those.
I’d heard that berberine is an appetite suppressant and helps lower blood sugar. It also slows down the digestive system and/or can cause tummy discomfort. Some call it an alternative to ozempic.
Interesting; berberine is in a number of herbs, I don’t have my best book handy, but it is also good for liver problems, fevers, infectious illness, and I think inflammatory skin conditions, off the top of my head. I’ll check back with more info and corrections if I’m wrong!
I had rosacea a few years ago, it was horrible. All over my face, red, I think some bumps, painful, nose was sort of swollen. I’ll have to figure out what herbs I used. Diet didn’t seem to be involved with min. Rosacea is not uncommon. Good topic, I’ll post more and ping the list. Bob’s and your experiences may help others.
My experience with rosacea and metronidazole {Flagyl} is anecdotal; it does not constitute proof of any kind. That being said, I suffered for years with increasing facial pain from rosacea. I happened to develop an ulcer, was prescribed Flagyl {oral}; some time after completing the antibiotic series I noticed that my chronic rosacea symptoms had disappeared. They have not returned.
It seems logical that, if the drug worked systemically it should work topically on a 'skin' disease. That depends on the drug and the malady. Perhaps there is more to rosacea than just topical pathogens❓ Away back in the 70's a doctor prescribed tetracycline, a broad based antibiotic sometimes prescribed for acne; I was told to expect to take it the rest of my life. I decided against that remedy but it does indicate that they viewed rosacea as a 'bacterial infection'.
If you like, ask your doctor to prescribe a normal metronidazole oral series; perhaps worth a try.
